Art DeckO - Buffy The Vampire Skater
Yet another very cool group art show from Swell Artist Collective. All artists were provided a new skateboard deck to turn into whatever art piece their hearts desired. With a Women’s March fresh in my mind and steadily listening to the Buffering the Vampire podcast I knew I HAD to create a kickass Buffy Summers piece.
Art DeckO - Spiderman into the Skater-verse
The new Spider-man into the Spider-verse movie has been on my mind since I saw it this winter and with the neon color and the node to graffiti art I needed to create a piece that let me explore all of that myself. Swell Artist Collective’s 7th annual Art Deck-O show seemed like the perfect time to let that superhero nerd side of me out. So with the idea firmly in mind and the excitement to finally get to try my hand at some of the classic Spidey acrobatic poses I started work on my “What’s Up Danger”  Mile Morales piece.
32 Cells - Escape
This was my first attempt at creating a very short comic book, as well as participating in the Swell 32 Cells group art show. We were tasked with creating an original work based on the escape story of historic inmates at the Old Idaho Penitentiary (a local museum and historic site in Boise, Idaho). I was assigned Bill Burt who escaped after winding up in the hospital after a prison yard knife fight. He had such a sequence of events tied to his story I just had to create a piece the explained it thusly.
32 Cells - Origins
This is my second year in the Swell 32 Cells group show and once again my nerdy pastimes have influenced my artwork. This years task was to give the origin story of one of the inmates. Mine happened to be the youngest inmate ever incarcerated in the Old Idaho Penitentiary. He was 10 years old. A sad story of following his father around his hometown of Soda Springs, Idaho in 1885 trying to keep him out of drunken fights. One of which escalated to the point where the boy ended up shooting a man to save his father. A sad story for sure, and one I wish could have been stopped. Enter the Doctor.
Doctor Who fans will know how the main character of this story constantly states to everyone he meets that he can’t muddle in the past. However, he is constantly changing the path of history with his sonic screw driver as he pops in and out of the past and future in his TARDIS. This piece is a bit of a wish that someone like the Doctor could have swooped in to stop this small bit of history from happening. Although, if you could… should you?
32 Cells - Sports & Leisure
Year three of the Old Idaho Penitentiary and Swell Artist Collective show, 32 Cells. This was an odd image that sort of popped into my head after a few weeks of mulling over the details of two inmates that took it upon themselves to develop and create a relevant reading program for their fellow inmates. Together they wrote and illustrated the educational materials which eventually became a national reading program for inmates all over the country.
Soooo, here you have my two assigned inmates battling back the book hoarding Book Wyrm in its catacombs or knowledge.
Miscellanies Shows
The following are a collection of miscellanies shows I participated in with Swell; everything from a Friday the 13th show, to a family friendly Curious Nonsense show. The mediums vary but all of them have an underlying sense of humor.
